Hope Lodge

There is a place of caring in Atlanta.

A place where many find courage, strength and comfort during the most difficult periods of their lives.

Elsie and I were fortunate to be able to stay at Hope Lodge during the time of my radiation treatments. We met many nice people who will remain our friends for life. The following is about the Lodge.

A Place of Caring
The American Cancer Society's Winn-Dixie Hope Lodge warmly welcomes cancer patients who have traveled to Atlanta for outpatient treatment.

The Lodge provides a home-like setting free of charge. Patients who would otherwise need to travel every day to get their medical treatment or stay overnight in a hotel can stay at the Lodge. Transportation assistance is provided to those who need help getting to land from treatment. Patients' family members are also welcome at the Lodge.

Even patients returning home between treatments will benefit from the Lodge, where they will find a place to rest and regain their strength for the journey home.

A Place of Support and Encouragement.
Treatments for cancer patients can last from one day to many weeks. The constant traveling, combined with the actual cancer treatment can drain patients and their families. It can affect them financially and emotionally.

The Hope Lodge offers relief from the stresses that often occur with prolonged cancer treatment. Lodge staff and volunteers provide support and understanding. At the Lodge, families, friends, and patients in various stages of treatment support one another as no one else can.

Hope Lodge has 34 guest suites; each suite has a living room, bedroom, and private bath. There is also a central kitchen, dining room, lounge, library, and playroom for children.

A Place of Community
Residents of the Hope Lodge can be found sharing a conversation in front of the Lodge's grand fireplace, strolling in the gardens, or watching a favorite television program in the sitting room. Some residents curl up with a book in the library, relax on the porches, or join in a game of cards in the living room. Children play games and activities, accompanied by an adult, in the playroom and crafts area.

Patients and their loved ones provide emotional support for those just beginning. treatment. Others get encouragement from those who have successfully dealt with the stresses and problems of treatment.

Instead of paying room fees, guests contribute to the smooth operation of the Lodge by caring for their own rooms, keeping the common living areas neat and clean, and attending to most of the daily activities of home life on their own. Guests prepare their own meals with food they have purchased. On-site laundry facilities are available and linens and towels are provided by the Lodge.

Hope lodge is located near the Emory University Medical campus and it is a short distance from all other metro Atlanta hospitals and cancer treatment centers.
