retired boilermaker and a member of Boilermakers Union Local 582,
he died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at his residence in
Greenwell Springs. He was 69 and a native of Ola, Ark. He was a
U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean conflict. Visiting was at
Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Friday. Visiting in the funeral home chapel from 9 a.m. until re-ligious
services at 11 a.m. Satur-day, conducted by Bill Brewer and Tim
Richardson. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Sur-vived by his
wife, Elizabeth Bates; parents, A.J. and Tressie Bates; a son and
daughter-in-law, Mark A. and Kelly Bates; and four grand-children,
Kristen Bates and Shelby Bates, Amanda Denning and Alex-ander
Goodwyne. Preceded in death by a son, James Leroy Bates.
Pallbearers will be Mark A. Bates, Ray Day, Joe Binder, Edmond
Williams, J.V. Strother, Andy Williams and Bobby Lastor. Honorary
pallbearers are Dr. Mark Hodges and Dr. David Han-son. He was a
member of Good-wood Church of Christ.
