Thursday, Nov. 14, 1991, at his residence in Abilene, Texas. He
was 58, and a native of Baton Rouge. He was a missile operations
officer with USAF and a U.S. Air Force veteran. Religious services
at St. Mark's Episcopal Church at 10 a.m. Monday, conducted by the
Rev. Charles E. Chatham. Graveside services at Elmwood Memorial
Park, with full military honors. Survived by wife, Barbara G.
Smith, Abiline, Texas, father, Gordon Wallace Smith, Sr., Port
Isabel, Texas, a daughter, Sarah-Janette Smith, Charleston, S.C.;
three sons, Gordon Wallace Smith III, Abilene, Texas, Gilbert
Weber Smith, Omaha, Nebraska, and Steven Scott Smith, Bellevue,
Neb.; two sisters, Nancy Virginia Smith, Baton Rouge, and Susan
Kathleen Smith, Fort Collins, Colo; four brothers, Thompson King
Smith, United Kingdom, William Gill Smith, Philadelphia, Pa.,
James Weber Smith Port Isabel, Texas, and John Charles Smith, San
Antonia, Texas; and 10 grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Honor
Guard of United States Air Force. He was a graduate of Istrouma
High School Class of 1950, and a graduate of LSU Class of 1954. He
retired as a Lt. Col. in 1993, and received the Meritorious
Service Medal (Two Oak Leaf Clusters), Air Force Commendation
Medal (One Oak Leaf Cluster), Combat Readiness Medal and National
Defense Medal. He was a member of LSU Club of Abilene and St.
Mark's Episcopal Church. Memorials may be made to Hospice

arrangements.
